QNAP has finally launched its SAS version of the rack mount Enterprise NAS servers featuring 12, 16, 18 and 24-bay configurations with full support for the 12 and 16-bay expansion units. The models include support for SAS, SATA and SSD drives. The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP SAS and SSD support allows the server to deliver exceptional performance coupled with full duplex functionality, and supports cross-platform file sharing, comprehensive backup solutions, iSCSI and virtualization applications, and many practical business functions, making it the ideal choice for SMBs to secure important business data. The expandability is impressive scalable to 144 hard drives and up to 567TB raw capacity, it finally signals QNAPs no-nonsense style of manufacturing a range of NAS servers that will allow Enterprise organizations to scale down its investment in humungous SAN infrastructure at times just the cost of upgrades can equate to a quarter of the cost of buying a NAS with the specification of the TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP. We will focus on the TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP, a 16-bay, 3U rack mount featuring 16 x hot-swappable trays that can be locked as well. The major additions have been the inclusion of the combined Serial-attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial ATA (SATA) support along with SSD the ability to plan for tiered storage becomes a reality. Connectivity with expansion units is inclusive as the support for SAS means to simply populate the expansion units and continue to expand the capacity. Both the REXP-1200U and REXP-1600U are supported again both units support all SAS/SATA and SSD platforms.
The unit measures 130(H) x 442.4(W) x 528.3(D) mm weighing at 27.38 kg/ 60.36 lb. (Gross) and has an output of 54.5 dB with 16 x 3TB Enterprise drives.
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP is designed with the Quad Core Intel® Xeon® E3-1245 v2 Processor 3.4 GHz at the heart of it supported by 8GB DDR3 ECC memory installed, with a maximum expansion to 32GB which would take the form of 8GB x 4 – to achieve this the original 4GB memory modules do need to be removed.
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP offers 4 x inbuilt Gigabit Ethernet ports and expandable up to 8 x 1 Gb LAN or 4 x 10 GbE + 4 x 1 GbE LAN by installing optional dual-port 10 GbE and 1 GbE network card. The 10GbE-ready TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP delivers lightening data throughput. Coupled with the support for large storage capacity, the TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP is perfect for data centers to storage big data and excel in fast data transmission, and for editing large size videos on-the-fly without transferring the videos between the TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP and desktop computers expandable up to 8 x 1 Gb LAN or 4 x 10 Gb + 4 x 1 Gb LAN by installing optional dual-port 10 Gb and 1 Gb network card.
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP features dual USB 3.0 and quad USB 2.0 ports for high speed backup to external hard drives. EXT3, EXT4, NTFS, and HFS+ file systems are supported to ensure compatibility with Windows, Mac® OS X, and Linux operating systems.
QTS 4.0 - Simple and efficient
Thanks to QTS 4.0’s intuitive user interface, system operations of the TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP are smooth and handy. Its intelligent desktop allows you to find the desired functions quickly, create desktop shortcuts or group shortcuts, monitor important system information on a real-time basis, and open multiple application windows to run multiple tasks concurrently, bringing greater working efficiency.
SSD cache acceleration
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP supports SSD caching which can greatly boost IOPS performance of storage volumes. It is perfect for improving overall workflow of IOPS demanding applications such as virtualization.
Seamless capacity expansion
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP supports online capacity expansion by cascading multiple RAID expansion enclosures to meet the needs of growing business data. With the QNAP scale-up solution, raw storage capacity can be gradually expanded to 576TB. It is especially useful for large data applications, such as video surveillance, data archiving, and TV broadcast storage, to name few.
Powerful QNAP Flexible Volume
QNAP flexible volume provides a more secure and flexible way to store the NAS data. This next generation volume offers powerful features such as storage pooling with multiple RAID group protection, thin provisioned volume with space reclaim, block-level iSCSI LUN, and online capacity expansion. The QTS Storage Manager neatly presents tools and options for managing system storage which simplifies the process of NAS capacity expansion and QNAP RAID expansion enclosure management.
Cross-platform file sharing, centralized data storage
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP supports SMB/CIFS, NFS, and AFP protocols for file sharing across Windows, Mac, Linux/UNIX networks. Data, logs and ISO image of CDs and DVDs can be centralized store in the NAS and protected by integrated antivirus solution. The Windows AD and LDAP services enable system administrators to configure user permissions by using existing Windows AD server, LDAP server or NAS build-in LDAP service.
Disaster recovery solutions brings peace of mind
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP offers various data recovery options. RTRR (Real-Time Remote Replication) supports real time or scheduled data backup to a remote Turbo NAS or FTP server and synchronizes files to a remote folder from a local folder with better backup efficiency and reduced backup time. The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP also supports rsync protocol to back up data to another remote server on scheduling basis. Besides, data can be backed up to cloud storage, such as Amazon® S3, ElephantDrive®, Symform®, Dropbox® and Google® Drive, and restored to the TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP anytime.
Storage for Comprehensive Virtualization Applications
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP is VMware® Ready™, Citrix® Ready™, compatible with Microsoft certification and Windows Server 2012, benefiting flexible deployment and management in the virtualization environments. The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP supports VMware VAAI and Microsoft ODX to increase performance by offloading ESXi server loading, and supports QNAP vSphere Client plug-in and QNAP SMI-S provider with enhanced efficiency of operations and management in virtualization applications.
The TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP supports SAS 6Gbps hard drives driving over 3,000 MB/s throughput and 400,000 IOPS*. Featuring with Intel® Xeon® 3.4GHz Quad Core Processor and 8GB DDR3 ECC RAM, the TS-EC1679U-SAS-RP greatly enhances efficiency of CPU-consuming tasks and serves more concurrent tasks at the same time.
